Wednesday is pretty much a repeat of Tuesday when it comes to schools with virtually all public and private schools in the Double Q Country listening area closed, including Chadron State College and all 3 campus of Western Nebraska Community College.
About the only exception appears to be the Garden County schools, including Oshkosh-Garden County High, which have a 2-hour late start at 10:00.
With highway conditions still described as treacherous and many city streets still not plowed as crews focus on main arterials, authorities are still recommending no travel. As a result, many…if not most…city, county, state, and federal offices in the Panhandle will be closed again today.
The continued closure of Highway 385 between Bridgeport and Chadron means the U-S Postal Service truck was again unable to get to Alliance and points north, so there’s no mail delivery again today in Alliance, Chadron, Crawford, and other post offices served by that truck.
Snow Emergency rules remain in effect for virtually all Panhandle towns that have them, giving street crews a better opportunity to clear the snow more safely, efficiently, and effectively.
Many so-called “NGOs”…non-governmental organizations such as CAPWN – Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska, Western Community Health Services, and the Chadron Housing Authority…are also closed today, as are most…if not all…senior nutrition sites.
Many businesses across the region are also closed today, but those are decisions made by each individual business owner.
