Tri-State Generation and Transmission has implemented a rate structure change which results in an increase of 6.1% to Chimney Rock effective February 1, 2016 for kwh used in January 2016. To understand how this change in power cost impacts Chimney Rock, we had our engineer look at our rates. We want to make sure each rate class is paying its fair share of the total operating costs.
The engineer, Board of Directors and management looked at different ways to spread the increase in power costs. It came down to the fact that we have to increase rates an average of 2% in order to make sure we cover our expenses. An average increase means that some consumers may see a higher increase than others. The new rates will be implemented February 1 for January’s kwh usage.
The change in Tri-State’s wholesale power rate structure will provide the resources for adequate generation and transmission to meet current and future needs to allay some of the unrest among the Tri-State membership.
