Over 600 incoming freshmen and transfer students converged on Chadron State College today for the school’s mandatory New Student Orientation. The new students come from 28 states and several foreign countries.
The morning saw Orientation student leaders and volunteers from the campus and community help the new students moved into the residence halls and the opening of a One Stop Shop for student services in the Student Center.
“Where’s my Classroom?” tours led by current CSC students will head out from the Student Center between 1:00 and 3″00 while parents have a drop-in social and reception from 2-4:00 at the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center where they can relax and meet and greet other parents and CSC staff.
College President Dr. Randy Rhine will present the official welcome for the Class of 2018 at Elliott Field at 4:30 p.m. followed by a family picnic under the large tent near the Student Center.
The majority of the Orientation Weekend activities will be tomorrow, starting with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. in the Dining Hall followed by a welcome at 9 a.m. in the Ballroom.
Breakout sessions on various subjects for students, parents and guests will be held at various locations on campus from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch in the Student Center
An Information Fair runs from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Student Center and the Library Learning Commons.
More “Where’s my Classroom?” tours will leave the Student Center from 1-3:00, but there will also be concurrent sessions from 2-4:00 0n various campus entities and services.
Wrapping things up beginning at 5:00 under the tent on the lawn east of the Student Center will be a Backyard BBQ and “down home” party.
The party…which includes music by Victory Underground, yard games, and prizes…runs from 6 p.m. until dark. Faculty and parents are welcome to attend.
