OREGON TRAIL DAYS GETS UNDERWAY IN GERING TONIGHT

OTD BANNEROregon Trail Days, the longest continuously running celebration in Nebraska, begins its 93rd edition today and runs through Sunday.

Oregon Trail Days General Chairman Bill Schlapfer says the 4 days of activities start with the annual kickoff barbequetonight at 6 p.m. in front of the Scotts Bluff County Courthouse in downtown Gering.

Schlapfer says BBQ beef sandwiches are $3 while Larry Soto and the Drivin’ Dynamics will provide live music. The OTD Art Show also begins this evening and runs through Saturday.

Friday events start at 7 a.m. with the Don Childs Jr Memorial Five Mile Run from 10th and O Street to the Scotts Bluff National Monument Ranger Station and back. Water will be provided and walkers are encouraged to take part.

Other Friday OTD events include the Kiddie Parade, Old Settler’s Luncheon, Quilt Show, Car Show & Food Fair, and a Free Concert at the Five Rocks Amphitheater.

Saturday starts with a Bicycle Hill Climb, the Parade is at 10 a-m. and there will be Mud Volleyball, a Craft Fair, the Chili Cookoff, Family Day at the Five Rocks, and a Horseshoe Tournament.

Sunday finishes out the celebration with a final day of the Quilt Show and the traditional Gospel Jubilee at Five Rocks. A full schedule of OTD events and registration forms are available at oregontraildays.com.
