IS ROBIN THICKE’S APOLOGY TOUR WEARING THIN?

NEW YORK (AP) — If you see a photo of Robin Thicke holding his latest album, take a good look; it might be the closest you’ll see him to a “Paula” for a while. Thicke named his latest album after his estranged wife — part of a very public “baby-I’m beggin’” campaign to woo her back after actress Paula Patton bolted. But so far, it doesn’t seem to be working. Thicke tells New York radio station Hot 97 he hasn’t seen Patton for four months. Thicke says Patton “is still a good friend” and says of their relationship: “we cool.” At the same time, Thicke says he wanted to spill his guts about his marital misdeeds so he can “take responsibility” for the problems he caused in the relationship with Patton, who he considers “the best girl in the world.”

JEWEL GETTING A DIVORCE

NEW YORK (AP) — Jewel says she wants the breakup with her husband “to be nothing less loving” than when they got together. One step in that direction: her announcing in a letter on her Web site that she and Ty Murray are going their separate ways after a 16-year relationship. Jewel says she decided to write the “Dear World” post to tip off her fans before they heard the news in the tabloids. The singer and Murray were married in 2008 — and have a son together.

ARIANA GRANDE TO PERFORM ON MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS

NEW YORK (AP) — Unless she gives in to a fit of Miley Cyrus-like twerking, you probably won’t be talking about Ariana Grande the day after the MTV Video Music Awards. But she is the first artist to be confirmed for the show next month. MTV announced that she will be on the August 24 show, which will air live from The Forum in Inglewood, California. The awards show appearance comes at a good time for Grande. She releases her second album, “My Everything,” the day after the VMAs.

PRINCE TO RETURN TO ESSENCE FESTIVAL

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — He was there for the 10th anniversary of the Essence Music Festival. And Prince will also be on hand this week, when the event marks its 20th anniversary. Organizers say Prince and his musical cohorts will play the main stage at the Superdome. Among those who will perform as part of Prince’s set will be Janelle Monae and Nile Rodgers. Other acts to perform at the holiday festival include Nas, Trey Songz, Lionel Richie, Charlie Wilson, Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige, Tamar Braxton, Ledisi, Erykah Badu, Tevin Campbell and Doug E. Fresh.

ADAM LEVINE ON ACTING

NEW YORK (AP) — Adam Levine says because he grew up in Los Angeles, the idea of being in a movie was “somewhere in the back” on his mind. And he has gotten his wish, as a member of the cast of “Begin Again.” And he feels he’s been bitten by the acting bug. Levine says being in the movie made him fall in love with filmmaking, calling his budding acting career “the very beginning of something really cool.” He also says he can relate to the character — a musician whose sudden fame drives a wedge between him and his girlfriend, who is a singer-songwriter. Kiera Knightley co-stars.
