JOHN LEGEND EXPLAINS MULTIPLE SONGWRITERS

NEW YORK (AP) — John Legend understands if you think it’s ridiculous when you see six songwriters credited on one song. Legend says sometimes he’ll get a beat from a producer who uses a team of three people, so all those people get credit. If Legend then writes lyrics with one other person, that’s why so many people will get credit for one song. Legend says he’s written songs by himself and songs with just one other person. He says no matter how many people have input, he makes sure the words that come out of his mouth reflect his perspective.

MORRISSEY SHUTS DOWN AMERICAN TOUR

UNDATED (AP) — Morrissey has called off his American tour because of illness. His representative says the respiratory illness Morrissey contracted in Miami has gotten worse. He has canceled the rest of his American dates so he can make a full recovery. Morrissey also called off his North American tour last year after he came down with double pneumonia, a bleeding ulcer and a gastrointestinal issue called Barrett’s esophagus.

CHRISSIE HYNDE LONGS FOR OLD TIME ROCK AND ROLL

LONDON (AP) — Rock and roll isn’t what it used to be, in the eyes of Chrissie Hynde. She says rock used to be anti-establishment, and now it’s “this congratulatory Grammy culture.” She says she doesn’t know where to look when she sees “someone holding their little statue crying,” because she’s so embarrassed. Hynde is promoting a new album, “Stockholm,” and she’ll talk to anyone except fashion magazines. She says, “If they won’t have Lemmy, don’t ask me.”

PITBULL ON JENNIFER LOPEZ AND WORLD CUP

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) — Pitbull isn’t fazed by all the talk over whether Jennifer Lopez will be at the World Cup opening ceremony. The rapper says Lopez has “a lot of things going on” — so he isn’t surprised that she will be parachuting in just in time to appear at the event to kick off the international soccer tournament in Brazil. He describes J-Lo as “a soldier,” ”hustler” and “a grinder” — all compliments, by the way. Pitbull says Lopez has “gone over and beyond” getting to Brazil for the World Cup opener. Pitbull joins J-Lo and Brazilian artist Claudia Leitte on the World Cup official song, “We Are One.”

PLACIDO DOMINGO TO PERFORM AT WORLD CUP FOR SIXTH TIME

SAO PAULO (AP) — Placido Domingo has been a player at the World Cup for a long time. And he’ll be back for more this time, too. The singer will perform again before the games wind down this summer. He will perform a concert July 11 — two days before the tournament ends. Domingo has appeared at every World Cup final since 1970, with the exception of the 1978 games in Argentina.
