Eagles head coach Janel Baily says the 6-foot right side and outside hitter will be solid addition to the team.
Varela, a native of Dorado, Puerto Rico, helped the Cougars win the Region IX championship and advance to the NJCAA national tournament last fall. She will have three years of eligibility remaining at CSC.
Varela appeared in 34 matches in her only season at WNCC. She tallied 117 kills on a hitting percentage of .194 while adding 42 total blocks and 36 digs.
In high school, Varela helped lead Bayamon Military in Puerto Rico to a runner-up finish in the junior national tournament…where she was named MVP.
She was active on the Puerto Rico National Volleyball Team for nearly 10 years and participated in the Federation International Volleyball Girls Youth World Championship in 2011 in Turkey. She also played international matches in Peru, Guatemala and Mexico.
Varela is the seventh volleyball player to ink with the Eagles for this fall. The others are Chloe Guillenof of San Antonio, Kenzie May of Indianola, Neb., Ashlyn Hanson of Seward, Neb., Lelalelei Nomura of Iliili, American Samoa, Rudy Leasau of San Diego, and Alexis Farris of Blair, Neb.
