JENNIFER LOPEZ BOWS OUT OF WORLD CUP FESTIVITIES

SAO PAULO (AP) — Count Jennifer Lopez out when it comes to performing at the World Cup. She will not be taking part in the opening ceremony in Brazil when the games get started. Lopez performed on “We Are One” with fellow artists Pitbull and Claudia Leitte. But now reps for Lopez are confirming that Lopez won’t be part of the live performance of the song at the games. They didn’t explain why she won’t attend. But FIFA — soccer’s governing body — says she won’t be on hand because of what they call “production issues.” They didn’t elaborate. The opening ceremonies are set for Thursday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

CHEAP TRICK FIRE

LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — Sometimes after a concert, there may be a little haze in the air after the house lights go up. But this time, it was smoke. A piece of audio equipment caught fire after Cheap Trick performed at the American Music Theater near Lancaster, Pennsylvania on Friday night. Lancaster Newspapers reports that theater workers put out the flames — which came from a subwoofer — even before firefighters could arrive. The incident as concertgoers were leaving the theater — and no injuries were reported.

LL COOL J PERFORMS AT BELMONT STAKES

NEW YORK (AP) — “California Chrome” may not have come through on Saturday at the Belmont Stakes. But LL Cool J did. The rapper was among the acts who performed before the final leg in horse racing’s Triple Crown. Race organizers tried to increase the number of spectators at the race by adding entertainers along with the undercard leading up to the main event.
