BEASTIE BOYS WIN LAWSUIT AGAINST MONSTER ENERGY DRINK

NEW YORK (AP) — It was the Beasties against a Monster — and the Beasties won. The Beastie Boys have won $1.7 million in a copyright violation case against the maker of Monster Energy drink. The case pitted the two surviving members of the group against the California-based Monster Energy Company. The group — which has long resisted the use of their music in ads — sought $2 million dollars from the beverage maker. For its part, Monster claimed it should have to pay no more than $125,000. The jury had the last word — awarding the group $1.7 million. The jury found ten violations of the group’s copyright — and awarded $120,000 for each one. The panel tacked on another half-million after it found the company copied the group’s persona — suggesting the Beasties endorsed the energy drinks. Ad Rock says he’s happy with the verdict. Lawyers for Monster say the company will appeal.

They made off with jewelry and the singer’s 2014 Maserati. The car has since been found abandoned in Simi Valley, California.

AUSTIN MAHONE TRIES TO SEPARATE HIMSELF FROM JUSTIN BIEBER

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Austin Mahone feels if you compare him to Justin Bieber, you’re just being lazy. Mahone says he can understand why people do that but he finds it “kind of obnoxious.” He says people see him as a young man who sings and dances and they assume he’s another Bieber. He says he may not be the best dancer or the best performer, but he’s getting better and it pays to keep watching.
