Forest Service LogoCHADRON, Neb. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service is hosting a “Hike For Wilderness” event in northwest Nebraska’s Pine Ridge Ranger District.

The event on June 7th will take place in the Soldier Creek Wilderness Area in celebration of National Trails Day. National Trails Day is held annually on the first Saturday in June, to promote awareness of trails and outdoor activities.

Organizers say the hike will begin at the Soldier Creek Campground at 8:30 a.m. Mike Watts, a Pine Ridge recreation specialist, will lead the roughly 5-mile hike on trails that are moderately strenuous. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy footwear, bring water and snacks, dress appropriately for the weather and wear sunscreen.

Anyone with questions can call the Pine Ridge Ranger District at 308-432-0390.
