The Reds beat the Blues 89-72 Sat in the annual Panhandle Prep Boys All-Star Basketball Game in Scottsbluff. The Reds were up just 41-37 at the half, but pulled away after intermission…finishing on a 41-26 run.
MVP honors went to Alliance High graduate Trevor Kamerzell, who scored 17 points. Kamerzell said he was surprised to get the honor, but also called it a dream come true.
Both his father Mark and uncle Tim Kamerzell had played in the All-Star game…Tim winning the slam dunk contest…and Trevor said he’d always wanted to be in it as well. The two older Kamerzells went on to play at Chadron State.
The Reds had 5 other players reach double figures…including Sidney teammates Paxton Ehler, Lucas Rosenbaum, and Logan Lewis…who had 13,10, and 10 respectively. The others in double digits were Grant Olsson of Gering with13 and and Jake Reader of Kimball with 10.
Bryant Knigge of Potter-Dix led the Blues and all scorers with 20, but Ogallala’s Jared Jaeger was the only other Blue player to reach double digits and he had just 11.
Bo McVay of Mitchell won the 3-point shooting contest, which was held during halftime of the girls game, and Jared Jaeger of Ogallala claimed the slam dunk contest held between the two games.
