DAN AND SHAY’S ODD BEGINNINGS

NASHVILLE (AP) — Dan and Shay met in a tent in Dan’s living room made out of a sheet. Shay Mooney says he got invited to a keg party at Dan Smyers’ house and he showed up to find a tent made out of a sheet in the living room. Smyers says he bought every sheet from a thrift shop and set up tents because he was too broke to pay for heat. Smyers says he’d sit in front of the TV thinking, “It’s awesome being an artist in Nashville!” Mooney says he didn’t know what to think of this guy, but they soon found out they hit it off musically. Smyers says they were singing until 4 AM and they wrote a song the next day that ended up being under consideration by a major artist.
