NEW YORK (AP) — Fortune’s list of the world’s 50 great leaders includes presidents, titans of business and one lead singer. Wynton Marsalis also makes the list, because he has played, composed and taught through his entire career and has built up Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York.
”AMERICAN IDOL” SAYS GOODBYE TO MK
LOS ANGELES (AP) — MK Nobilette’s mistake on Wednesday came back to haunt her last night. She was eliminated from “American Idol,” a day after she lost her place during the live performance. The judges debated for quite some time before giving their decision. Harry Connick Junior pointed out it had to be unanimous and it was not, and it breaks their hearts to say goodbye to her. Dexter Roberts and Majesty Rose were also in the bottom three.
FERGIE TAKES UP CAUSE OF ABUSED WOMEN
WASHINGTON (AP) — Statistics say one in three women worldwide will be abused by their partners during their lives. And Fergie says that “is totally unacceptable” and is trying to do something about it. The Black Eyed Peas singer was at an event at the State Department yesterday to announce a new initiative to launch training programs in India, Nepal, South Africa and Mexico. Fergie says one big problem is that there are laws on the books to protect women — but those laws are too often misunderstood — or ignored — by local authorities.
GROUPLOVE TRY TO EAT VEGAN
CHICAGO (AP) — The members of Grouplove sometimes resort to eating just french fries for meals. Singers Christian Zucconi and Hannah Hooper are vegans, and every now and then that’s all they can find. Hooper says sometimes she’ll eat a salad with no dressing on it because the only option is ranch dressing. Hooper says they will chase down recommendations people give them, which sometimes means they’re eating junk food like pizza or healthy stuff like kale salads. She says being a vegan on tour is like a side project.

NEW YORK (AP) — Mick Jagger has started making funeral arrangements for his longtime girlfriend, L’Wren Scott. A representative for Jagger says the Rolling Stones singer is in L-A to be with his four daughters and son. Scott died Monday in New York at age 49; the city’s medical examiner’s office has ruled her death a suicide. The statement asks for privacy for Jagger and his family. The couple had been together since 2001.
MORE KURT COBAIN EVIDENCE RELEASED
SEATTLE (AP) — There’s some new evidence in the Kurt Cobain case — but nothing that changes the result. Police say they were reviewing the evidence collected in the case — and found several rolls of undeveloped film taken at the suicide scene of the Nirvana frontman. Those images were released yesterday. One shows a box containing a spoon and what appear to be needles on a floor next to half a cigarette and sunglasses. Another shows the same box closed, next to some cash, a cigarette pack and a wallet that appears to have Cobain’s ID. Seattle police say they have been checking through the evidence in the Cobain to be ready for questions related to next month’s 20th anniversary of his suicide.
ATTORNEY DENIES TYLER, THE CREATOR INCITED A RIOT
UNDATED (AP) — An attorney for Tyler, The Creator says the rapper his client didn’t try to incite a riot at the South By Southwest event last week. Perry Q. Minton says in a statement released to The Associated Press that what happened at the Scoot Inn, located in Austin, Texas was no riot. And Minton says at no point during his show did Tyler incite or take part in riotous activity. He says video clips and witness reports show that those attending the show “never exhibited any anger or aggression.” The rapper with Odd Future was arrested as he left Austin for a show in Texas. Police say he urged fans to storm the entrance to the club where he was performing. He’s charged with misdemeanor riot — and is free on $25,000 bond. He faces up to a year in prison and a $4,000 fine if convicted.
FIRING UPHELD FOR LAPD OFFICER WHO LEAKED RIHANNA BEATING PHOTO
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge in Los Angeles says the LAPD was within its rights to fire an officer who leaked an evidence photo showing what Rihanna looked like after she was beaten up by Chris Brown in 2009. Officer Rebecca Reyes was fired after an investigation determined she took a picture of an evidence photo — and the image ended up on TMZ.com. Reyes denies sending the photo to the site — but acknowledges sharing it with an ex-girlfriend, who phone records indicate called the celebrity Web site. The ex-girlfriend — still an LAPD officer — denies sharing the photo with TMZ.
Meanwhile, Brown is in a Los Angeles jail held without bail after he was arrested March 14 for failing to remain in rehab as ordered by a judge. The rehab stay was part of his sentence for the Rihanna attack.
