Funeral services for Molly Hankins of Hay Springs, Nebraska will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Hay Springs with Father Tim Stoner officiating. A rosary will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 7:00 PM at St. Columbkille. Mrs. Hankins passed away on March 13, 2014 at the Chadron Community Hospital. She was 92.
Molly (Amelia) H. Kruml Hankins was born May 27, 1921 at home, north of Hay Springs, Nebraska. Molly was the fourth of five daughters born to Adolph and Ethel (Vladyka) Kruml: Pauline (Cletus) Riley, Ellen (Bill) Serbousek, Martha (John) Krotz, Molly, and Irene (Glen) Sutton. She attended 1st through 8th grade at the Corner School. Molly met Edgar Hankins in early 1940. The two were married November 6th, 1940 in Rushville, Nebraska. Edgar and Molly made their home in the house that she was born in. To this loving union 4 children were born: Marilyn Ethel (Redfern), Dennis Eugene, Alan Richard (Dick), Randal Wayne.
Edgar and Molly went through a lot of hard times on the farm, but there were a lot of great times too! Molly farmed right beside her husband, raised 4 children, enjoyed teaching her grandchildren and great grandchildren how to fish, had a huge garden, canned, she took pride in her sewing, she raised chickens and eggs, spent many hours in her flowerbeds, she also enjoyed endless hours of card playing and everyone enjoyed her card parties. She was a member of the Catholic Ladies group. Her door was always open and no one ever left her house hungry. Molly passed away at the Chadron Community Hospital March 13th, 2014. She was greeted in Heaven by her parents, her sisters Pauline, Ellen, & Irene, her husband Edgar, her children Dennis and Alan Richard, her daughter-in-law Dorothy Rising Hankins and many other friends and family. Molly is survived by Sister Martha Krotz, children Marilyn and Randy, 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
A memorial has been established for the Hay Springs Fire Department. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary, PO Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.
