ADAM LAMBERT TO PERFORM IN FREDDY MERCURY’S SHADOW ON QUEEN TOUR
NEW YORK (AP) — Adam Lambert says if he had listened to the haters, he never would have gotten where he is now. And where he is now — is about to head out on tour with Queen on their summer tour. He says he doesn’t worry about people who question his talent. He says in this age when everyone has access to the Internet, “you just can’t focus on that crap.” Lambert first performed with Queen in 2009 when he was a contestant on “American Idol,” where he placed second. The band and Lambert have since performed together — but it will be a challenge to replace Freddy Mercury, who Lambert describes as “one of the greatest singers that ever lived.”
PATTI LaBELLE, JANELLE MONAE, ARETHA FRANKLIN PERFORM AT WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON (AP) — Some soulful ladies had the White House under its spell all day. So much so, that President Barack Obama forgot how to spell for a moment. The president and first lady Michelle Obama hosted a concert featuring singers ranging from Aretha Franklin to Janelle Monae to Ariana Grande. The president gave props to Franklin for her signature song “Respect” — calling it “a rallying cry” for blacks, women and “everyone who felt marginalized.” But Obama botched the spelling of the song — leaving out the first “E.” It wasn’t the only bobble the first family had as they hosted the soul singers. In the morning, first lady Michelle Obama drew laughs when she tried to motivate students to excel at life. After quoting LaBelle as saying her success came from singing her butt off, she urged students: “whatever you do, do it until your butt comes off.” She realized immediately that her “quote is going to kind of funny” when it was repeated on the news.
INVADER FOUND IN JUSTIN BIEBER’S RENTAL HOME
ATLANTA (AP) — For the second time in just over a week, police have been called out to deal with issues at a home Justin Bieber is renting near Atlanta. On Wednesday, police arrested a woman found sleeping in a bedroom of the home, which is owned by music producer Dallas Austin and is being rented by The Beeb. The woman told police she had come to the house for the singer’s birthday party — but realized she was too late for it. Police say Bieber’s party had been held earlier in the week — at another location. The 23-year-old woman is charged with criminal trespass. Last week, police ended up at the rental home after a photographer complained that Bieber’s bodyguard stole his camera as he tried to take pictures of the singer. The bodyguard faces a felony charge in that case. But police say Bieber was not involved.
REST OF JUSTIN BIEBER POLICE TAPE RELEASED
MIAMI (AP) — Musicians have been using samples in their videos for as long as anyone can remember. But in this case, it’s a musician giving a sample that is being featured in a video. Police in Miami have released the fought-over clips of Justin Bieber giving a urine sample for a drug test after his January arrest. Prosecutors turned the clip over to the media, after a judge ordered that images of Bieber’s privates be blacked out. The clips released yesterday show Bieber standing below a low partition to provide the sample. A police officer hands him a cup and the singer hands it back after providing the sample. The drug test is key to Bieber’s DUI case — because authorities say the sample came back dirty — with evidence of pot and anti-anxiety drug Xanax in his system. Bieber also was charged with resisting arrest and having an expired license. He has pleaded not guilty.
LIL’ BOOSIE SET FREE FROM PRISON
ANGOLA, La. (AP) — Lil’ Boosie is out of prison. The rapper has walked from the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, where he had been serving an eight-year sentence on drug charges. The rapper is 31 — and first arrived at the pen in 2009 after pleading guilty to a third-offense pot possession charge. While he’s out of prison, he isn’t out of the woods, legally. He remains on supervised parole until 2018.
”AMERICAN IDOL” SAYS GOODBYE TO EMILY PIRIZ
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Keith Urban had predicted Emily Piriz would be back next week on “American Idol.” Keith Urban was wrong. Piriz was the lowest vote-getter and was eliminated last night. When Ryan Seacrest asked the judges if they had made a decision on using their save on Piriz, Jennifer Lopez snapped, “No!” She said their decision was not unanimous. Jena Irene and MK Nobillette were also in the bottom three. Next week, the contestants will sing songs from the cinema.
INSANE CLOWN POSSE FESTIVAL HEADED FOR OHIO
DETROIT (AP) — The Gathering of the Juggalos has finally found a home for this year. The annual festival led by Insane Clown Posse is set for Thornville, Ohio this summer. The new location became necessary after sites in Missouri and Illinois fell through. Now, the rap-metal duo’s label says the festival will be at the Legend Valley Concert Venue — July 23-26. The group’s Web site calls the event “four days of inhibited enjoyment.” But past events have been marred by unruliness, drug use, fights and arrests.
