The Alliance Public Schools Foundation will also sponsor a concert by 1995 Alliance High School graduate Todd Almond on Saturday, April 19 at the Performing Arts Center.
Almond recently played Ariel in his own musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s THE TEMPEST, directed by Lear deBessonet for the Public Theater’s celebrated “Shakespeare in the Park” at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Other original musicals include the book for GIRLFRIEND at Berkeley Repertory and Actors Theatre of Louisville (music by indie rocker Matthew Sweet); a musical version of Sarah Ruhl’s MELANCHOLY PLAY with 13P; ON THE LEVEE with Marcus Gardley and deBessonet at Lincoln Center; and his own musical adaptation of THE ODYSSEY at the Old Globe in San Diego under deBessonet’s direction. Favorite acting roles (regional): Hedwig in HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH; Bernard in A NUMBER; and Charlotte et al. in I AM MY OWN WIFE. He is the musical director for Broadway luminaries Laura Benanti (recently on the live SOUND OF MUSIC broadcast on NBC) and Sherie Rene Scott. With Benanti, Almond released the live album “In Constant Search of the Right Kinds of Attention” and with Scott, the studio album from the hit show PIECE OF MEAT, an album which Almond also produced.
APS Foundation board member Dave Ocken says Almond’s performance should be a real treat for those who attend.
Tickets are $12 and the revenue will be used to fund another APS Foundation project: The Alliance High School Wall of Fame.
