Three Chadron State College art/graphic design majors traveled to Omaha recently with faculty member Mary Donahue for the annual Meet the Pros Conference.
Held by the Omaha chapter of the American Advertising Federation, it gives college students a look into the real working world of advertising, design, and branding.
Macee Kellner, Cassandra Anderson and Vicky Lawler joined more than 240 other students from17 colleges and universities in the region to hear from professionals and get individual reviews and advice about their portfolios and resumes from over 100 Omaha area professionals.
Among those making presentations were youth brand marketing guru Clint! Runge from Lincoln-Archrival, whose clients include Red Bull and Adidas brands. Runge has legally added an exclamation point to his first name, making him stand out a little more from the crowd.
Award-winning copywriter/creative director Tom Demetriou of Barkley in Kansas City shared his secrets for “stealing” great ideas and gave the backstory on his 2007 Superbowl television spot for Nationwide featuring Kevin Federline.
Other speakers gave tips on interviewing, résumé writing, LinkedIn professional profiles, the future of the industry, networking, and creative brainstorming. Austin-based graphic designer Armin Vit told the students that inspiration is a myth and that paying attention, commitment, brute force, and labor trump inspiration.
This is the fifth year Donahue has taken a group of students to Meet the Pros.
