Shooting crime-1SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) — Scottsbluff authorities say a 29-year-old man armed with a handgun has been shot during a standoff with officers.

Officers were sent around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday to a report about an armed man yelling in a street. Officers say the man retreated into a camper parked in front of a mobile home. Other officers were called in, and a negotiator made contact with the man.

Police say the man came out of the camper around 10:30 p.m., armed with a handgun. Scottsbluff Police Chief Kevin Spencer says one of his officers shot the man twice when he wouldn’t put down the weapon.

The man’s name and condition haven’t been released. He was taken to Regional West Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman didn’t immediately return a call Wednesday from The Associated Press.
