CHADRON- Chadron State won 7 matches, including 2 by pin and one by a major decision, it taking a 28-9 decision over Northern State in a dual match Saturday afternoon in Chadron, the final competition for the Eagles until after the holidays.
The pins were posted by freshman Jacob Anderson at 149 pounds just 13 seconds into the second period and by junior Michael Hill late in the third period at heavyweight.
The match was the first for Hill in more than a month after he was injured the first weekend of the season. He showed no ill effects of the layoff, building a 10-0 lead before getting the pin with 18 seconds left in the match.
The 10-2 major decision was from senior Jordan Debus at 184 pounds. It was just his second match after he also was injured as the season was opening.
“It is good to have both Jordan and Michael back in the lineup,” said CSC coach Brett Hunter. “It’s a process to get everything like we want them to be, but I think we’re on the right track.” The Eagles also defeated Dickinson State 33-4 in a dual on Wednesday night.
CSC’s other winners against Northern State were senior Dustin Stodola, ranked 4th at 133 pounds, who improved to 12-0 with a 13-6 victory, CJ Clark at 157 with a 5-2 decision, 165 pound Tyler Smart with a 4-2 decision, and Dylan Fors wiht a 7-3 decision at 174.
Northern State’s wins were all close. Anthony Bruno edged Alex Klopp 1-0 at 118 , Ian Muirhead topped CSC’s Jay Stine 7-6 at 141 and Joe Gomez needed a takedown at the buzzer in overtime to beat Devan Fors 4-2 at 197.
Chadron State’s’ next action will be January 4th against Morningside College of Iowa, a match that will be held in Valentine.
