In the 8th round of the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas last night, former world champion saddle bronc rider Chad Ferley of Oelrichs placed 5th and moved up to 2nd in the world standings.

With two rounds left, Ferley trails Jake Wright, who won the round for the second straight round and fourth time this year.

Two other riders of regional interest failed to place. Nebraskan Cort Scheer of Elsmere now sits 7th in the standings while Cole Elshere of Faith, SD, is 11th.

In steer wrestling, Gering resident and 1998 Alliance High School graduate Dean Gorsuch failed to place in the 8th round.  The World Champion in both 2006 and 2010, Gorsuch slipped from 4th to 5th in the world standings.

Another steer wrestler from the Tri-State region, Jason Miller of Lance Creek, Wyo, didn’t take down his animal and is now 15th in average, while bareback rider Steven Dent of Mullen was 1 point out of the money last night and sits 14th in the standings.

In barrel racing, Lisa Lockhart of Oelrichs and Trula Churchill of Valentine both finished out of the money in the 8th round. Lockhart is 8th in the world and Churchill 14th with just 2 rounds left.
