The Chadron school board has unanimously approved a new 2-year contract with the school district’s Bargaining Unit II…which represents custodians, maintenance staff, and bus drivers.
Board members Keith Drinkwalter and Tom Menke voted in favor after being assured that there would be no conflict of interest problems caused by the fact that they are part-time bus drivers for the district since the contract covers many other employees.
Board personnel committee chairman Terri Haynes says the agreement provides for a full 2.5% raise in base salary and a 2.5% step increase this year and only step increases next year.
The package is in line with that given to all other Chadron Public Schools employees this year, and Haynes says negotiations on the new contract could not have gone more smoothly.
The school board last night also formally recognized the Chadron Teachers Association as the bargaining unit for the teachers, with those contract negotiations expected to begin shortly.
