Four Chadron State College football players have been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Super Region 4 Football Team as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Tailback Glen Clinton, offensive lineman Sam Parker, defensive back Pierre Etchemendy and defensive lineman Zach Sandstrom all represent the Eagles on the first team. Four was the most selections of any school in Super Region 4. Since all four earned first team recognition, they will advance to the national Academic All-American ballot.
Clinton, a senior from Cody, Wyo., has a 3.60 GPA in biology. An Academic All-American in 2012, Clinton has rushed for 1,363 yards and 13 touchdowns this season.
Parker, a junior from Harrison, has a 3.80 GPA in communications. He has started eight games and has often been the most consistent offensive lineman for an offense that averages over 500 yards and 38 points a game.
Etchemendy, a senior from Douglas, Wyo., has a 3.85 GPA in rangeland management. He is fourth on the team with 55 tackles and has added four tackles for loss.
Sandstrom, a junior from Chadron, has a 3.94 GPA in physical education. In nine starts this season he has 30 tackles.
To be eligible for the all-academic team, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA
The Academic All-District teams are divided into 8 geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America program that has CoSIDA doubling the number of scholar-athletes honored.
Instead of recognizing just a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) team, there are now 4 teams: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and a College Division team combining NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
