GREELEY, Colo. – The Chadron State College wrestling team nearly started its season with an upset victory over Division I Northern Colorado but the Bears won the final three matches en route to their 18-17 dual victory Thursday in Greeley, Colo.
Despite the tough setback, second-year head coach Brett Hunter was impressed with his team’s performance.
“I’m happy with how hard we competed,” he said. “We really controlled the pace and I’m proud of them.”
While UNC won the final three matches, the Eagles took charge early. Senior Dustin Stodola earned a 13-4 major decision over Sonny Espinoza at 133 pounds and two freshmen followed suit with wins of their own. It was the first collegiate victories for both Stine and Anderson.
