The Box Butte Development Corporation held its annual awards banquet and year in review program Wednesday night at the Westside Events Center.
During the year in review segment, executive director Chelsie Herian announced that BBDC recently became the owner of 50 acres of land in east Alliance.
Herian says the property will be used to attract businesses and industries.
Herian says that the Box Butte Development Corporation utilized the services of the state department of economic development and the city of Alliance to obtain the land.
Several awards were presented during last night’s banquet, including a special certificate of appreciation to the Box Butte County Agriculture Society for the building of a new livestock barn at the Box Butte County Fairgrounds in Hemingford.
The K.L. Wood Company with Ken and Lynda Wood of Alliance was named the businesses of the year, while the Treasured Grounds Coffee Shop and D&A Lawn Service of Hemingford and their owner, Dennis Zajic, was named Entreprenuer of the Year.
The Main Street Merchant of the Year was Roller Hardware of Alliance and owners Greg and Lisa Carter.
The Ambassador for Building the Best Hometown in America award went to Rich Otto.
Following the banquet, director Chelsie Herian stated she was looking forward to a busy 2014.
Elected president of Box Butte Development for another year was Shawn Nelson of WESTCO. Tom Shaal of the Alliance Times-Herald was elected vice-president, while Dan Griess of Box Butte General Hospital was elected secretary.
