CSC Wrestle 13 teamCHADRON – The Chadron State College wrestling team appears to be on the rise, but it will undoubtedly receive a test Thursday at 6 p.m. when it duals the Northern Colorado Bears in Greeley.

Although Northern Colorado was just 1-10 in duals a year ago after being handed some NCAA sanctions, the Bears are expected to be considerably stronger this year, reports indicate.

“They’re pretty well loaded,” said Chadron State coach Brett Hunter.  “The dual will really challenge us, but I think it will be good for us over the long haul.”

The Eagles are expected to have at least four freshmen, maybe five, in the starting lineup.

Northern Colorado’s kingpins will include heavyweight Henry Chirino, who had a 23-9 record last season. Much is also expected from Mitchell Polkowske at 157 pounds. He had a 28-6 record and was the Western Wrestling Conference champion in 2008-09 before going on a Latter-Day Saints mission for three years.

After dualing the Bears on Thursday, the Eagles who make the trip to Greeley and most of the other team members will enter an open tournament at Northwest College at Powell, Wyo., on Saturday, Hunter said.

Hunter said many of the Division II and NAIA teams from Montana, North Dakota and Idaho are expected to compete along with a number of wrestlers from Division I schools such as Boise State and Wyoming.
