Alliance High School Principal Dr. Pat Jones says that after the schools’ first quarter, one-third of the freshman class was failing one or more of their classes.
Dr. Jones told the school board Monday night that altering the school schedule has allowed for increased time the students can spend with teachers … he referred to the increased time as a ninth period.
Jones added that the Bulldog Achievement Center has extended its hours from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. The BAC provides the opportunity for students to work on assignments.
Jones says he is working to make sure all freshman are passing. He says freshman who don’t move on to the sophomore level after the first year are at higher risk to not graduate.
He says the number of freshman who are failing in the second quarter is down slightly since the measures have been implemented.
