BootsEthel Eileen Boots died Friday, November 1, 2013 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance.

She was born April 18, 1915 in Big Springs, NE to Bert and Dora (Weidner) Shuler.  She attended school in the Big Springs area.  Ethel worked in various café’s and taught school for 2 years before moving to the Sandhills in 1935 to teach at the Boots School.  While there she met her future husband, Marvin Boots. They were married in Julesburg, CO on June 17, 1936.  They worked for the Monahan Cattle Company for a number of years where there daughters, Carol and Betty were born and raised.  They left the ranch in 1963 to move to Ashby where the Boots Brothers had a shop and contracted hay.  Following her husband’s death in July 1967, Ethel worked at the Bank of Hyannis for 13 years and later as an aide at the Ashby School.

She was a member of the Ashby Congregational-U.C.C.  She was also a 25 year member of Eastern Star, served on the library board and a member of Ashby Women’s Fellowship.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and numerous family members of her husband’s family.

She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Carol and Jerry Card of Meridian, ID and Betty and Earl Bush of Alliance, her grandchildren, Joan (Brad) Schnell of Alliance, Angela (Ted) Herring of Riggins, ID, Ron (Ashley) Bush of Elbert, CO, Julie (Lynn) Troxell of Meridian, ID, her great-grandchildren, Courtney, Conor and Carly Schnell of Alliance and Carson and Ellie Bush of Elbert, CO.  She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Esther Boots of Alliance, Ramona Dorris of Lemoyne, NE and Bette Boots of Australia and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.  at the Ashby Congregational Church with Rev. Roy Monahan officiating.  Burial will be in the Bingham Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1-7 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the Ashby Congregational Church, Prairie Haven Hospice or Good Samaritan Health Care Center.
