The Chadron State College music department kicks off a three-Sunday series of 3 pm vocal performances this Sunday afternoon (Nov 3) when the Chadron Community Chorus and Chadron State Concert Choir offer a joint concert at the Chadron Arts Center.
The Community Chorus, directed by Dr Una Taylor, will begin the program with a set of English, Irish, and American folk songs featuring Kimberly Murphy…the CSC accompanist this year…not only on piano, but also on violin, and Lauren Stephens on flute.
Murphy and Dr James Margetts will be together on the piano for one selection, while Dr Taylor will join Margetts on the piano when Murphy is on the violin for the final selection…The Girl I Left Behind Me…when the Community Chorus will be joined by the college choir and its director, Dr Joel Schroeder.
Schroeder and the Concert Choir will remain on the stage for several acappella songs in a secular program of poetic texts, set to music. Featured will be a set of five pieces, composed by Eric Whitecre for the poems of E. E. Cummings.
The second Sunday concert (Nov 10), also at the Chadron Arts Center, will offer the CSC Men’s Ensemble and Arioso…the women’s ensemble…with a wide variety of musical selections.
Murphy will again supplement her piano accompaniment by moving over to the drums for one number, with Pamela Shuler…co-director of the Chadron Community Band…playing clarinet and Ann Sundberg…pastor of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Chadron…the cello
Concluding the concert series on November 17th, but in the Mari Sandoz Center Chicoine Atrium will be a faculty recital by Dr Taylor, accompanied by Murphy on just the piano.
