The 2014 Miss Chadron/Miss Northwest Outstanding Teen and Little Miss Chadron Pageant is this Sunday at 3:00 in the Chadron High School Auditorium with 19 young ladies from across the state competing. Doors open at 2:00 with tickets are available at the door at $5 and children 8 and under admitted free.
Co-emcees for the pageant will be last year’s two OT winners Alex O’Connor…crowned Miss Northwest just over a week ago…and Holly Walker.
Walker and O’Connor will also provide entertainment along with Little Miss Northwest 2013 Chloe Blumanthal, and Kodi Baumann…crowned Miss Chadron 2014 at the same time O’Connor received her crown.
The winners of the Miss Chadron and Miss Northwest OT titles will receive paid entry to the Miss Nebraska OT pageant held in North Platte in June, with that winner advancing to the Miss America OT pageant next summer in Florida.
Local pageant director Rikki Hunter says the Miss America system began the OT program to get girls 13-to-17 interested in pageant competition, and she’s proud of the number of girls who’ve moved up from her pageant to the Miss level and won titles…a group that includes O’Connor and Baumann.
There are 7 contestants from 6 communities vying for the Miss Chadron and Miss Northwest Outstanding Teen titles.
Two are local girls: Mikaela Hastings, daughter of Todd and Marleta Hastings of Chadron, and Aubree Noble, daughter of Renae and the late David Noble of Chadron. Their mothers are the co-directors of the local qualifying pageant in the Miss division.
The other OT contestants are: Chelsea Arnold, daughter of Paige Schmidt of Crete; Sydnee Strain, daughter of Kelly and Lea Anne Strain of Morrill; BreaHannah Harlow, daughter of Dale and Brandie Harlow of Broadwater; Alexis McGlone, daughter of Paula Brening and Scott McGone of Mitchell and Allie Boggs, daughter of Dr Todd and Annie Boggs of Gering.
The Little Miss titles have drawn 12 contestants. Four are from Chadron: Alyssa Snyder, daughter of Kristy Snyder and the late John Snyder; Kadence Wild, daughter of Joe and Tori Wild; Kennedy Trueblood, daughter of Mike and Amy Trueblood; and Gracie Jones, daughter of Dave and Amy Jones.
Alliance is the hometown of 3 contestants: Leyton Schnell, daughter of Lindsey and KC Chasek and Lanny Schnell; Hallie Chipperfield, daughter of Cy and Jessica Fryda; and Mia Fernandez, daughter of Romie and Jessica Fernandez.
Another three come from Crawford: Kylah Vogl, daughter of Joe and Amanda Vogl; Kamden Victory, daughter of Dustin and Phaedra Victory; and Megan Wendland, daughter of Jeff and Becky Wendland.
The others are Madison Elsea, daughter of Mark and Jodi Elsea of Gordon and Jadyn Wetherington, daughter of Joleen and Jarrod Wetherington of Mitchell.
The winners of the Little Miss pageant will receive a crown, sash, trophy and bouquet and will represent Chadron and Northwest Nebraska for a year.
A silent auction, audience choice award voting and other fundraising will take place before the pageant and during intermission. For more information, contact Riki Hunter at 308-430-4355.
