Ten young women will vie this Sunday afternoon for a chance to become Miss America as the Miss Chadron/Miss Northwest Pageant gets underway at 2:00 in the Chadron High School Auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door.
The two winners will each qualify for the Miss Nebraska Pageant next June in North Platte, but will also receive a 1-year tuition waiver to Chadron State College and a $200 cash scholarship.
Seven of the ten competitors are college students, with three from Chadron State College…senior Chelsae Riggs of Bridgeport, Samantha Green of Cheyenne, and Justy Bullington of Mullen.
Kodi Baumann of Chadron and Mikala de Koning of Gering are both attending Western Nebraska Community College, Adrian Jochum of Sutherland is a nursing student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Lucy McGlynn of Mitchell is studying at the Fullen School of Hair Design.
Three high school seniors complete the field…Celeste Calderon of Scottsbluff, Holly Walker of Gering, and Alex O’Connor of Keystone, who attends Paxton High.
This year’s theme is Viva Le Paris while the Mistresses of Ceremony will be the two outgoing titleholders: Miss Chadron Meghan Thalken and Miss Northwest Megan Dimmitt.
Dimmitt, who graduated from Chadron State College in May and is studying in Omaha for a paralegal certificate, recently qualified again for Miss Nebraska Pageant…this time as Miss High Plains.
