It’s pageant season again in the Panhandle with the Miss Western Nebraska/Miss Gering Pageant this past Saturday and the Miss Chadron/Miss Northwest Pageant this coming Sunday.
The Gering pageant also included the Outstanding Teen competition while the Miss Chadron/Miss Northwest Outstanding Teen Pageant is being held separately on November 3rd.
Three titles were awarded in Gering, with the winners advancing to next summer’s Miss Nebraska Pageant…Miss Gering Alexis Smith of Morrill, Miss Western Nebraska Morgan Yost, and Miss Oregon Trail Tosha Skinner of Hay Springs.
Skinner’s title was changed Monday to Miss Sugar Valley after pageant officials were notified that Miss Oregon Trail is trademarked with the Nebraska Secretary of State, even though the title isn’t currently active in the Miss Nebraska pageant system.
All three winners received a $200 cash scholarship provided by Platte Valley Companies with Smith also receiving a $1,000 scholarship waiver to Western Nebraska Community College and Yost receiving a one-year tution waiver to Chadron State College.
Crowned in the Outstanding Teen pageant were Miss Western Nebraska OT Grace Heggem of Scottsbluff, and Miss Gering Outstanding Teen Caylen Calderon of Scottsbluff. A 8 girls competed in the Teen Division and 13 in the Miss Division.
Ten young women will vie for the titles of Miss Chadron and Miss Northwest this Sunday afternoon at 2:00 in the Chadron High School auditorium. The two winners will each receive a 1-year tuition waiver to Chadron State and a $200 cash scholarship.
