Fire Prevention - flames demonNational Fire Prevention Week wraps up today, but two northern Panhandle volunteer fire departments are marking the occasion tomorrow (Oct 13) with fundraisers.

The Crawford VFD holds its annual Pancake Feed at the fire hall. While most people think of pancakes as just for breakfast, the Crawford feed allows the chance to have pancakes for lunch and dinner as well since it runs from 7 am to 6 pm

The Chadron VFD has its annual Open House and Spaghetti Feed from 10:30-2:30 in the fire hall. It was postponed from last Sunday by cleanup efforts from the blizzard and wind storm.

The open house will include fire safety demonstrations, giveaways, information booths, and a chance for kids to meet Smokey Bear.

Both the Chadron Spaghetti Feed and the Crawford Pancake Feed are free, althouth free will donations are strongly urged.

Funds raised by both events are vital to the two departments, which use tax dollars to purchase fire trucks and some equipment but rely on donations, memorials, and fund drives to purchase Rescue Units, other vehicles, and specialized equipment.
