CSC snow teamFor the first time in anyone’s memory, the weather has forced Chadron State College to postpone a football game. Today’s Homecoming Game with Adams State has been rescheduled for tomorrow at noon.

School officials made the decision shortly before 8:00 this morning, about 5-1/2 hours before the scheduled kickoff time, citing safety concerns after a fall storm left behind more than a foot of snow with wind gusts of up to 50 mph forecast for today.CSC snow Randy

Also cancelled was the annual Athletic Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni Banquet, which had been scheduled for 11:00. It will not be rescheduled.

Chadron State Information Services Officer Con Marshall, a Chadron native who has been affiliated with the school as a student or staffer for the past half century, says he can’t remember the Eagles ever postponing a football game because of the weather…although the 1996 Homecoming Parade was cancelled because of extreme cold.

Redshirt members of the football team, college personnel, and a few community members showed up at Don Beebe Stadium/Elliot Field at 6 am to clear off the field using shovels and snowblowers…a project that was still underway at midmorning.

The Adams State team arrived in Chadron from Alamosa in the afternoon, ahead of the worst of the storm, but wound up spending time in the dark because of a power outage at their motel.
