A public groundbreaking ceremony for Box Butte General Hospital’s new 101,000 square-foot addition and renovation project on will take place Tuesday, October 1, at 2 o’clock on the hospital’s west lawn.

Becknhauer Constructon of Norfolk, NE (www.beckenhauerconstruction) will build the facility at a guaranteed maximum price of $31,545,000.

The groundbreaking ceremony will include guest speakers and the announcement of the Box Butte Health Foundation’s capital campaign kickoff.

The new addition will be built to the west and north of the current facility, adjacent to Box Butte Avenue.

Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dan Griess says the new addition will include 25 patient rooms and several other health care services.

Griess says the patient rooms that are part of the current hospital, which opened on October 1, 1976, will eventually begin remodeled into offices.

The project has been in the planning stages for three years, and Griess outlines its funding and when construction is expected to begin.

Griess says he believes that while there will be major changes to the hospital aesthetics, the care given patients within the new walls will still be priority one.

Griess says that one of the big changes patrons will see during construction, is the elimination of Suite 2107, that at one time served as the Box Butte Medical Clinic. The facility currently houses the cardio-rehab department, diabetes education, marketing, the Box Butte Health Foundation, and other services.

The expansion and renovation project will take over two years to complete, and Griess says hospital patrons and employees will need to exercise some patience during the huge transition. He says BBGH will utilized the services of the local media and the internet to keep the public informed.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on the 37th anniversary of the opening of Box Butte General Hospital, and Griess says October 1 is a red-letter day in the history of BBGH.
