NEW YORK (AP) – Probably the only thing lamer than not being able to reach someone by phone – is having to endure the request that you leave a message for them after the required “beep.” Some celebrities are offering a way to make those outgoing messages, well, a little more outgoing. You can get a custom recorded message from “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston, Cher, Jack Black – and even legendary Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully. Ed Asner is behind the effort – which raises money for Autism Speaks. Starting next month, you can write up a 20-second message and have it recorded by a celebrity. Each costs $299. And before you get carried away, keep in mind that the messages are not only MP3s – but also be PG. Last year’s message campaign raised $100,000.
