CHADRON – After splitting four matches while playing in a classic hosted by Nebraska-Kearney last weekend, the Chadron State College volleyball team will enter the Colorado State-Pueblo Tournament this weekend.
The Eagles will help open the tournament in Pueblo by meeting William Jewell College at 9 a.m. Friday. Chadron State beat the Missouri team 3-1 in both teams’ closing match at Kearney on Saturday. William Jewell finished with a 1-3 record at Kearney.
The Eagles also beat Newman University of Kansas, but fell to South Dakota Mines and host UNK last weekend.
Later on Friday, CSC will meet No. 8 ranked Wayne State and then play Southwest Baptist of Bolivar, Mo., and Lindenwood University of St. Charles, Mo., on Saturday.
Wayne State went 4-0 while playing in a classic hosted by Concordia-St. Paul. The Wildcats’ big win was a 3-1 victory over the hosts, who were No. 1 in the American Volleyball Coaches Preseason poll and have won six national volleyball championships.
Wayne State also defeated the University of Indianapolis, and nationally-ranked Colorado Mines and Wingate of North Carolina in the St. Paul Classic.
Southwest Baptist went 2-2 last weekend, beating Cameron of Oklahoma and Henderson State of Arkansas, but losing to Texas A&M-Commerce and Southern Arkansas.
Lindenwood was 0-4 and did not win more than one set in any of its matches while falling to Arkansas Tech, Northern State of Aberdeen, S.D., St. Cloud State of Minnesota and Drury, another Missouri team, during a classic at Springfield, Mo.
The Eagles will open their home schedule on Sept. 20 and 21 by playing Metro State and Regis.
