Willow Tree Festival - crowdThe 30th annual Willow Tree Festival is this Saturday and Sunday in Gordon, a kaleidoscope of entertainment for the whole family with simultaneous performances on three stages, Art and Craft Vendors around the grounds, and “Food Row” offering divine taste treats.

There are Children’s activities to entertain the young at heart and two museums that are open for your enjoyment. The festival grounds encompass two city parks and the community building with the adjacent streets blocked off to make the grounds a large, safe area for all day family fun.

Buttons which admit you to both days of the festival may be purchased in advance or at the gate. Advanced sales prices are Adults: $8.00 and Youth 5-18: $2.00 while buttons at the gate are Adults: $10.00 Youth 5-18: $3.00.

Performers on the Gazebo Stage this year include Blue Grama… a hot bluegrass band out of Ft. Collins…Miles From Dublin…a quartet that specializes in traditional and contemporary Irish dance tunes, pub songs, and ballads…acoustic musician Branden Sipes…whose original songs combine rock, pop, and folk influences…and the a cappella group Wonder Voice.

Appearing on the Community Stage will be storyteller and actor Darrel Draper, pianist Scott Kirby…called one of the best interpreters of ragtime music on the scene today…the singing group Legacy…comprised of sisters Rachael Price, Abby Christian, and Hannah Christian…historical re-creators John and Pamela Voehl…who will portray Abraham and Mary Lincoln…and the St John’s Brass from Alliance.

The Voehls and the Discovery Mime Theatre will be on both the Community and Children’s Stages. The Children’s Stage also has the Rocky Mountain Puppets and juggler and unicyclist Bekah Smith.

The children’s craft section, located on the north side of the park adjacent to the Children’s Stage, will have a snake-bubble maker, necklaces, and bracelets. There will be a large inflatable slide and games, including Frisbee tic-tac-toe and pass-the-hoop, face painting, and tattoos…while members of the Chadron State College wrestling team will be helping out.

The Willow Tree Festival is named for a real Willow Tree that still lives on the banks of Antelope Creek near the Sheridan County Fair Grounds in Gordon, Nebraska. The Lone Willow was for many years a meeting place for all of the early residents of the area including cowboys, settlers, fur traders and Native Americans.

It is in this spirit of “A Place to Meet” that organizers invite you and your family to the Willow Tree Festival on the banks of Antelope Creek at Winship Park in Gordon.
