The Second Annual Grime Time Adventure Race is fast approaching. It will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, with check-in to start at 10:00 a.m. in the parking lot located on the north side of Laing Lake in Alliance. The race begins at 11:00 a.m.“The course has 15 obstacles and is designed so that people with different fitness levels can participate,” said event coordinator Dan Newhoff, Wellness Coordinator for Box Butte General Hospital. “This isn’t a race for the elite. It’s a race for everyone.”
The Race consists of a designated running trail, designated biking trail, a boating event and navigation, as well as 13 different obstacles along the way. There is no designated path to the Race and teams can strategize the best possible path they think will give them the best completion time.
All participants must register as a team of two in one of the three race divisions: Male – two person team; Female – two person team; Coed – two person team. Cash prizes will be given out to the top three completion times in all three divisions.
Participants must register at www.raceregister.net or can contact Mr. Newhoff at 308-761-3404 for registration details. Registration will cut off the day before the race (Friday, Sept. 13), or cut off after the first 50 teams are registered. Contestants must register as a team and will not be able to register as an individual. The cost of registration is $50 per team for all divisions.
“A lot of work has gone into this year’s course and we hope residents in the Alliance and surrounding communities will participate,” Mr. Newhoff said. “It’s for a good cause. In early August, we pledged $2,000 in proceeds from the race to the Raise the Roof Campaign. Though it’s officially over, that pledge was part of the fund raising total.”
The purpose of the race is to have a community event that serves a community cause. “We want to continue to promote wellness and healthy behaviors,” Mr. Newhoff concluded. “Contestants from last year said they had a blast. We think they’ll have even more fun this year.”
Box Butte General Hospital and the City of Alliance are the event organizers. Other local businesses and organizations are supporting the Race through Gold and Silver Level sponsorships.
