David John Schlegel, 62, of Mitchell, died Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Heritage Estates in Gering.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Emmanuel Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff.
Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Emmanuel Congregational Church. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com
David John Schlegel was born November 4, 1950, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. David was the son of John and Elmyra Ella (Fahrenbruch) Schlegel. David was raised and educated at Minatare and was a graduate of Mitchell High School. He attended Chadron State College, graduated from Nebraska Western College in Scottsbluff and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
David worked for The Great Western Sugar Company, Roosevelt Public Power District, and the Federal Land Bank in Omaha. David farmed in Morrill, Lyman, and Mitchell Valley. David was a Top 10 Sugar Beet Grower numerous years and farming was David’s passion. David was a member of Emmanuel Congregational Church located in Scottsbluff and a member of the Nebraska Sugar Beet Growers Association. David worked extremely hard helping neighbors and family with any endeavor that came about.
David is survived by his sister, Sharon Kay and her husband Robert Duchek of Pacific, Missouri; two nieces; a nephew; two grandnieces; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
