Labor Day -1The Labor Day Holiday period is underway, actually beginning Thursday and running through Monday. AAA Travel projects 34.1 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during that time.

That’s a 4.2% increase from last year and the highest Labor Day total since 2008. Triple A credits the increase to a positive economic outlook and improving consumer confidence.

85% of those heading out for the weekend…29.2-million…will be traveling by car, while 8% will fly. The remaining 7% will travel by rail, bus, or boat. 46% will leave tomorrow and 43% will be coming back on Monday.

Nebraskans staying closer to home will find numerous ideas on how to celebrate the last summer holiday at www.visitnebraska.com   The events section lists dozens of  community celebrations and activities appropriate for the entire family…including the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island, which concludes Monday.
