West Nile virusThe number of confirmed human cases of West Nile virus in Nebraska continues to increase…going from 11 to 14 between last Wednesday and Friday.

Four of the victims have been hospitalized, but there have been no deaths.  Last year, there were 193 cases and four deaths in the state.

West Nile is transmitted to people through mosquitoes that feed on an infected bird. Most people with the virus will have no symptoms or only mild flu-like symptoms. A small percentage will develop a serious illness.
