SD MinesA $2-million dollar gift by an alumnus is allowing the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City to move forward on an $8.9-million student wellness center.

The school says the donation by Stephen D. Newlin, president and CEO of PolyOne Corporation, should allow construction to start in February. Students have already approved nearly $7 million in fees for the center.

The 34,000-square feet building will include two basketball courts, a group fitness room, rock climbing wall, locker rooms, and space for weight and cardio machines.
