Fans have their first chance this year to see the NJCAA #1-ranked Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team in action this Saturday when the Cougars hold their Blue and Gold Scrimmage at 5 p.m. at Cougar Palace.

The scrimmage will be a prelude to the season that kicks off next week at the Reiver Classic in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on the 23rd and 24th.

The Cougars will play #4 San Jacinto and #2 Iowa Western Community College, the host team, on Friday and #6 Salt Lake Community College and Barton Community College on Saturday.

The Cougars have 8 home matches this season as well as the Wyo-Braska Tournament on September 21-22.

The dual matches are Casper on Tuesday, Aug. 27; Thursday, Sept. 19 Western Wyoming; Tuesday, Oct. 1 Eastern Wyoming; Thursday, Oct. 10 Otero; Friday, Oct. 11 Lamar; Saturday afternoon, Oct. 12 Trinidad; Tues, Oct. 15 McCook; and Friday, Oct. 18 Northeastern Colorado.

WNCC head coach Giovana Melo is looking for several ball girls for each home match. Melo says any girl in the fifth grade or higher can be a ball girl, and any girl interested should contact her at melog@wncc.edu or at 308-635-6028.
