Memorial services for Daniel Norton Grooms will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Rocky Ford School Gymnasium in Rocky Ford, South Dakota. Inurnment will be at the Rocky Ford Cemetery.
Daniel Norton Grooms was born in Gordon, Nebraska on November 2, 1947. His father was Frank H. Grooms and his mother was Wilma (Sees) Grooms. He grew up with a sister, Linda, and a little brother Joe Craig Grooms who passed on in a horse accident at an early age.
Danny attended grade school in Porcupine and rode there horseback every day. Danny later attended Sunshine Bible Academy High School where he met many lifelong friends. He traveled all over the country to rodeos as a saddle bronc rider, and still rode broncs up until recent years on occasion at local reservation rodeos. Dan made a big circle and had friends all over the US. He loved ranching and visiting with friends and family at branding.
Danny always had time for all the little kids who knew him. He had a very big, generous spirit, whether it be to a pony-less child or a bootless friend, he loved to give. Danny was a colorful character who will be missed by many, but leaves a lifetime of cherished memories behind.
He leaves behind two children, Son Brent and Daughter Brandyn who he always spoke so proudly of to everyone he met; countless friends and family to mourn his passing, and numerous children, blood relation or not, who considered him Uncle Dan or Grandpa, or simply “my friend Danny Grooms.”
