The Westco/Mobius/Hemingford Cooperative Telephone Company “Raise the Roof” challenge to get the remaining $150,000 raised to pay the debt on the new Box Butte County Fair livestock pavilion is ever increasing.
Wednesday morning, July 17, the thermometer at WESTCO in Alliance rose another $25,000. The total donated since the challenge was issued on May 30 is $100,000, which does NOT include the $30,000 match from WESTO and Mobius.
However, $21,000 was donated by WESTCO employees recently. Longtime Alliance area resident Ken Messersmith (in center in brown jacket) has also donated a total of $20,000.
WESTCO Chief Executive Officer David Briggs says he is optimistic that most of the $150,000 will be raised by August 6. He continues to encourage former 4-H and FFA members to donate $10, $25, $50 or $100 to the project. Checks may be mailed to Raise the Roof in care of the Box Butte County Extension Office at 415 Black Hills Avenue in Alliance.
The pavilion will be dedicated on Tuesday, Aug. 6 @ 11 a.m. The featured speaker will be Gov. Dave Heineman.
