U-S WOMEN WIN BIG, PLAY CANADA TOMORROW IN SEMIS

Jordan Hooper _ USAThe U-S women’s basketball team at the World University Games in Russia continued to roll today, swamping Sweden 103-82.

The game was close for a half with the U-S up just 26-24 after a quarter and 51-40 at intermission, but the Americans pulled away in the second half and outscored the Swedes by 24 in the 4th quarter.

The U-S shot 54% from the field and made 10 of 24 three-pointers while holding Sweden to just 1-19 from long range and 36% shooting overall.

Nebraska star Jordan Hooper of Alliance played just 9:13 and finished with 2 points and 2 rebounds. Odessey Sims led the U-S with a game-high 20 points.

The U-S will have the last semifinal game tomorrow night at 9 pm….11 a-m here…against Australia. The Aussies are also 4-0, with their 72-58 semifinal win over Canada their only game decided by fewer than 26 points.

The finals will be Monday.
