Friends and former students tomorrow will celebrate the life and career Bill Kant, one of Chadron High’s most successful wrestling coaches, joining with Kant for a free public reception from 2-to-5 at the Chadron American Legion Club.
The event marks 2 milestones this year…Kant’s 70th birthday and the 30th anniversary of Chadron High’s Class B state championship team.
The program will be informal with several of Kant’s assistants and wrestlers talking about him and telling stories. Everyone with memories or stories of Kant is encouraged to come and share then.
Kant…inducted into the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 1989…was the Chadron High wrestling coach for 20 years, from 1968 through 1988 when a serious injury forced him to retire.
Wrestlers coached by Bill Kant claimed 17 individual state titles and almost 100 state places while his teams finished in the Top 10 at state 14 times and in the Top 5 in Lincoln 7 times.
In addition to the 1983 championship teams, the Cardinals were 2nd in 1976 and 1978, 3rd in 1975, 4th in both 1974 and 1984, and 5th in 1982.
