The Chadron School Board approved a pair of contracts with Fisher Roofing of Scottsbluff on Monday night. Superintendent Dr Caroline Winchester says the bigger of the two…$19,500…allows the district to move up the last phase of reroofing the main part of the high school.
“We divided the high school roof project into 3 sections to make sure we had the finances, and we were able to shift some other expenses and some were less than we anticipated so we could do all 3 sections now and finish up with all new roof on it except over the auditorium.”
The smaller of the Fisher Roofing contracts is $6,500 to replace the roof over the corridor between the middle school and the middle school gym…which Winchester says is in desperate need of work.
“The roof is so old it’s starting to pull away. We’ve had some leaks that have been repaired, but since it’s not a very large section we’re to take advantage of their (Fisher) being here and get it done.”
The Chadron school board is trying to replace the roofs on all the district’s buildings except the new bus barn over the decade or so, and those in the most-urgent need of work within the next 5 years. Winchester says the primary building or the middle school will most likely be next.
