The 11 a.m. blast honored veterans and current military members as well as the memory of Crazy Horse sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski, a decorated World War Two Army sergeant.

Prior to the blast, horseback riders from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation held a ceremony honoring living and deceased military veterans.

The Crazy Horse Memorial is a mountain carving in progress that will honor Oglala Lakota warrior Crazy Horse.
