A special screening committee has sent Governor Dave Heineman 3 finalists to be the state’s next Adjutant General, and he hopes to make his selection by the middle of the month…although he doesn’t plan to release any names until then.
“We generally just try to announce who the Adjutant General is. I’m interviewing them, then I’ll make the final decision and I hope to do it in the next week to 10 days.
Heineman says each of the 3 candidates he’s considering has both National Guard and active duty experience, just as did his two previous appointees…Major General Judd Lyons and Major General Tim Kadavy…who both left for jobs at the Pentagon with the National Guard command, Lyons as deputy director of the U-S Army National Guard.
The adjutant general is the senior uniformed officer and leader of nearly 4,700 Army and Air National Guard personnel in Nebraska…and is part of the governor’s cabinet. The job brings a brevet rank of Major General, regardless of the person’s permanent rank.
